Winter Newsletter 2022

As I led my first virtual Sunrise yoga class for the new year, 2022….

As I led my first virtual Sunrise yoga class for the new year, 2022, I was filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all those attending and for the practice itself. When I practice yoga, I’m grateful to be filled with the breath, to move and flow with the breath, to nourish the body and the mind in sync. To be able to share this with others is such a blessing to me. So welcome to the new year, a time of new beginnings, new potentials with each new day. Replacing the old calendar with the new can be an invitation to reflect, and reflections can often turn into thoughts of I “should have” done this or that. Or a resolve to do better, the “should do” syndrome. “Should” and “shouldn’t” suggest that we are not good enough. I invite you to join me in trying to let go of those thoughts and focus instead on all the blessings we have in our lives right now.

Studies have found that giving thanks and counting blessings can help people sleep betterlower stress, and improve interpersonal relationships (NPR). When I worked with the Minnesota Hospital Association back in 2012, the organization was focusing on improving caregiver resilience to address the patient error problem in MN hospitals. There were many tools that were promoted to improve caregivers’ resilience. One, in particular, I have adopted and continue practicing to this day. The gratitude journal is a practice of every night reflecting upon and writing about three events, people, or accomplishments that one is grateful for. I have continued through the years to keep my journal and, though I don’t do it every single day, it is a practice I keep returning to. There is evidence that gratitude journaling can improve physical, mental, and social health for individuals and communities.

So at this moment, I feel so much gratitude for the beautiful snow falling outside, for sharing a yoga practice with many of you this morning, for the ongoing texts from my kids that are far away, for the fun and laugher shared with friends and family over the holidays, and for sharing the warmth and wonder of this house with my husband Ken. What is on your gratitude list for today?

Sunrise Yoga practice will continue virtually every Wednesday and Saturday at 8:00 a.m. until further notice. I plan to be gone for a couple of weeks from January 29 - February 13; however, that may change depending on the longevity of the Omicron COVID variant. I have some recorded classes on my website at: https://www.healingmotion.me/online-yoga-with-marnie and I invite you to use them if you’d like.

Donation: A minimal donation of $5.00 for live virtual class participation is requested, as it is nice to honor the value of the sharing. Most importantly, I want to share the practice of yoga with you and don’t want the payment to be an impediment to your practicing so please contact me if there is a concern. Venmo: Marnie-Myhre. Tai Chi continues at the Madeline Island Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. It is a wonderful, gentle, movement practice for balance and clearing the mind. Come and give it a try. It is free and open to all.

Winter Women’s Retreat on Madeline Island

As I'm in awe and wonder of the beauty of winter I would like to share it with you. So I'm considering a Winter Women’s Retreat on Madeline Island for February 24-27.  However, with Covid raging I am holding off on the offering until things settle down, if they will.  The retreat would be held from Thursday afternoon/evening to Sunday morning.  Yoga and Tai Chi, winter activities- skiing and walking on the ice and snow, massage and sauna, and nutritious meals are all in the offering. Lodging, meals and activities - estimated cost: $550.  It would be helpful to know if you would be interested in such an offering.

“We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a little precious moment.  A little parenthesis in eternity.”
- Paulo Coelho

I am grateful to be able to practice with you, and appreciate all that you bring to our shared humanity.
